Mellon Foundation to fund New Initiatives in Curatorial Training read about the initiative here , a five-year project in the Ph. Program in Art History that aims to enhance the diversity of curatorial training at the Graduate Center and ensure the sustainability of the initiative beyond the end of Mellon funding. We are proud to have produced a robust network of alumni, many of whom hold senior positions at esteemed universities, museums, and cultural institutions across the country and abroad.

The Anti-Racism Task Force welcomes feedback, questions, and suggestions. Please be in touch with us by email or through our anonymous Google Form. Within these courses, students are encouraged to make maximum use of the extraordinary exhibition and research facilities of New York City. Some courses are given outside the classroom, at institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the students also have the opportunity to participate in mounting exhibitions for the Hunter College art galleries.
All courses are given in the late afternoon or in the evening, which enables students to work or hold internships while they are obtaining their degree. Students may take 1, 2, or 3 courses a semester. Part-time attendance allows our students to earn a degree while holding full-time jobs. The community of students represents a wide range of interests, nationalities, ages and backgrounds. Contact the admission office to ensure applications are closed.
An MFA student is expected to achieve mastery of traditional techniques and practices as well as successful engagement with current art methodologies and critical discourse.
The achievement of these goals allows students to develop an authentic visual language as a means to communicate their personal vision, resulting in technically and formally sophisticated work that is engaged with the contemporary art world.
